About

Ryan Hoard

I work with adults and youth from diverse backgrounds who are faced with a variety of mental health and social concerns. Specifically, I specialize in the social-emotional issues of trauma, depression and anxiety. Life can already be challenging, but worry, stress, fear, doubt, guilt, sadness, frustration, or disappointment, well... that makes it rough. It is my belief that we have the resources to effectively manage the challenges that we are confronted by. We might just need a reminder about what those strengths and skills are. And it couldn't hurt to learn a new technique or two to improve our wellness.

My approach focuses on promoting wellness in the lives of the people I work with through resilience, emotional wholeness, and self-determination. Key features of my practice include self-reflection, balance, acceptance, mindfulness, and importantly, supportive and collaborative relationships.

Approach, Models and Principals

Ryan practices a unique form of Indigenous and post-contemporary psychology that is, from a classical mental health perspective, a return to traditional healing modalities that include principals from the Medicince Wheel and Seven Sacred Teachings. Attuned to the therapeutic qualities of kinship or Wahkohtowin, he cultivates manaaji’idiwag (RESPECT) with the narratives of the people who seek his consultation. Honouring these narratives through Indigenous protocols, Ryan questions into problems and invites the holistic healing capacities of individuals to create alternative possibilities.
